    Farewell Friday Fest

    Van Wezel’s monthly outdoor summer concert series closes out its season with contemporary country band One Night Rodeo. Founded in Bradenton, the band recently won the Great American Country and Music Nation’s “Next GAC Star” competition. In 13 years and over 2,000 performances, One Night Rodeo has opened for country great Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban and Montgomery Gentry. Bring blankets and chairs and plan on buying food and drink from vendors.

    Suncoast Blues Challenge

    This past year, the Selwyn Birchwood Band set the bar high for area blues/rock bands. The Tampa-based outfit won the 2012 Suncoast Blues Challenge, sponsored by the Suncoast Blues Society, to earn a spot at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis earlier this year. There, they made a big impression: They beat out more than 230 bands from all over the world to win the whole she-bang. Birchwood also won the Albert King Award for best guitarist. Now the Blues Society is gearing up to send two more representatives to Memphis.

    Sarasota's Got Talent Auditions

    Preliminary auditions for the 5th annual Sarasota’s Got Talent competition – sponsored by Julie Rohr Academy – will take place all day Saturday. All types of talent are welcome: singers, dancers, instrumentalists, comedians, yodelers, contortionists, competitive origami masters, what have you. Finalists will compete Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at Sarasota Military Academy, 801 N. Orange Ave.

    Culinaria offers diners a budget-friendly tour through the Bradenton area’s culinary scene with $15 lunch and $25 dinner, three-course prix fixe menus. The 16 participating restaurants include the original Eat Here on Anna Maria Island; Soma Creek Side, which will have just relocated to Manatee Avenue West; and Yachtsea Grille, which hugs Bradenton’s beloved Riverwalk.
