The entrance to Pinecraft Park is on Gilbert Avenue off Bahia Vista Street. A shallow boat ramp offers paddlers access to Phillippi Creek. The park occupies 22 acres in the middle of Sarasota, but it contains two worlds. To the south is the crisscrossing path through the woods called the Mesic Hammock Trail. To the north is a community park near the heart of Sarasota’s Mennonite community. The shuffleboard courts are crowded with generations of families. Women wear long dresses and bonnets. Men wear full beards and suspenders. There are also basketball and volleyball courts, a picnic shelter and restrooms.
