Herald-Tribune Review
Dining experiences can range from the most formal to the kind where the chef sits down at your table to go over the menu. The latter is what diners might encounter at Ortygia, a small, imaginative restaurant in Bradenton far from the beaten path, literally and figuratively.Except for neighborhood locals, few people are likely to stumble onto Ortygia by chance. It is located in a ramshackle building several blocks east of U.S. 41 on a residential street in Bradenton, near the Village of the ... Click here for full review

Fantastic food. Even though I'm not Sicilian, it feels like sitting down to a family dinner. The chef is also a blues musician, and will rock out during open mike night once he's got dinner served.

You cannot believe the amazing quality of food at this wonderful "home away from home" Chef Gaetano has really captured the uniqueness of the Sicilian taste. Spices that are very different from the Northern Italian cuisine. Do yourself a favor and take someone special -- even if that's just you -- and enjoy a fabulous meal. If you're lucky you might even get Gaetano to play the harmonica for you. *****

Chef Gaetano is a gifted chef of the Sicilian persuasion! Food is fresh and flavorful, the environment is warm and inviting... you will have a memorable meal and a fabulous evening with Chef Gaetano and his staff. Do something different, visit Ortygia in Bradenton's Village of the Arts. You will enjoy it.

The atmosphere at this restaurant is unmatched. If you're needing some pampering, fabulous food and to surround yourself with charm and warmth, this is the place to go. My daughter who is very finicky, loves Chef Gaetano's food! This is our favorite restaurant!

"Homey" doesn't even do the ambiance justice. To walk into Ortygia's is like being transported to a long lost relative's home in Sicily. After meeting Chef Gaetano, you know you are in for something special. Simply put, this man's passion is cooking. And this passion shines brightly on the amazing array of food offered. No spaghetti and meatballs here. The authentic Sicilian dishes are like nothing I have ever experienced. The original combinations in his recipes highlight the Chef's creativity. I've had the pleasure of visiting the restaurant twice so far, and I am definitely looking forward to my next Sicilian experience at Ortygia's soon.

Amazing and authentic! Charming atmosphere and great people. I love coming here. I feel like family and welcomed warmly every time. And one of my favorite parts is that Chef Gaetano will come out and mingle or play music. It's obvious he cares about each and every customer. Very special and unique place! Love it!

Great place with great food!! I always go to Ortygia at least a couple of times when I'm visiting the Bradenton/Sarasota area and have always enjoyed the food and friendly staff. Don't miss the Torte di Carfioci; it's fantastic.

OK. I take my food pretty seriously. We are fortunate to live such a great area of the West Coast of FL with so many great choices. I've heard a lot about Ortygia and decided it was time to see for myself how it compared to my top picks in Sarasota and Bradenton. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised at the fact that it was even better than I hoped. Every experience is fantastic! The food quality is second to none. Chef Gaetano presents each table like they are the honorary guests at a Sicilian culinary show. Every single step of the experience is authentic and unique. Each dish is as fresh and skillfully crafted as anything you can find in NYC's "best of the best" restaurants. The food is of course the heart of the experience, and consistently amazing. The atmosphere is genuine, pleasant, and you feel like you have returned to your favorite secret dining experience that you only want to share with your best friends. You can have a fantastic evening with a table of friends, or a romantic food experience with that special someone. This is dining the way it was meant to be. Sorry Sarasota guys...this is now my MOST favorite place to dine on the West Coast.

P.S. I don't want to sway your choices, but if Chef Gaetano has stuffed peppers or stuffed portobello mushrooms available, they are a must-try!

While visiting a friend in Florida he suggested we have dinner at Ortygia. WOW! What a wonderful experience. We enjoyed the warm atmosphere, excellent service and the food and drink. A must visit to this hidden treasure in Bradenton. Jan says we will have to return very soon. Told a few other friends who winter in Florida to make sure they do not miss this jewel of Italian cuisine.

This little restaurant is one of the best kept secrets in Bradenton. I have dined there several times and every visit is a new adventure in dining. The food is always outstanding. I almost always choose one of the specials Chef Guy has prepared for that day and I am particularly fond of his seafood specials. Nothing in this little gem is frozen and every dish is prepared individually. You may dine either inside or outdoors on the patio. Give it a try. You will love it.

You have to find this place and eat there! It is off the beaten track, but well-worth the effort to get to. When you are there, just relax and get into the laid-back atmosphere. You will find menu items here that you can't find anywhere else...artichoke tart and mushroom pate for appetizers...order any fresh fish dish that is on the menu that night, have some roasted garlic soup, and finish with a chocolate pate for dessert. ...and drink any one of the wonderful wines on the menu. Take a date and listen to the live music, and Chef Gaetano will probably come out from the kitchen and jam on the blues harmonica for the benefit of all. I sometimes have to wait for a table, so it is best to call ahead and make a reservation. (The only drawback is that I wish bread was always served with the meal, but no place is absolutely perfect).

This place is truly amazing! The Chef was so accommodating to my allergies and made me the best entre' I have ever had. I felt like I stepped into true Sicily when we came through the door. The staff was incredible, helpful, and so sweet. The young lady that waited on us just put the icing on the cake with her description of Chef Gaetsno's Chocolate Pâté. We are now regulars of this lovely hidden jewel!

Love this quaint little restaurant nestled in the Village of the Arts! Outstanding sicilian cuisine in a home like atmosphere. Chef Guy Gaetano knows his stuff...will chat with customers as if you are in his living room. Tuesday nights local musicians come out to play during Ortygia's open mic in the courtyard...complete w/tiki torches & tiny lit lights...tablecloths too! A very special place...
