Lan

Chef Lan Bradeen's small downtown spot is a triumph for young restaurateurs who want to break into the scene. Her cuisine is an interesting melange of Asian influences, constructed with precision and elegance, and the late-night menu is some of the best food in town.

Herald-Tribune Review
Lan has created a romantic setting in the location that once housed Café Kaldi. Fuchsia-colored walls reach to the open ceiling where exposed ductwork is painted black. The black and fuchsia combination plays out on the tables as well, while gauzy curtains separate the front of the restaurant from the back, creating a sense of intimacy. Subdued lighting adds to the effect. In the background Buddha Bar-styled music completes the pleasing ambiance. ... Click here for full review

Lan's ever-changing prix fixe menu makes my mouth water every time I look at it, although I usually end up there for the late night menu of inventive small plates. The shabu shabu (a hot pot for two) is fondue-like, making it a great option to share with a date or friend, and definitely makes a full meal. Some of the small plates are large enough to constitute a meal; others just make for a gourmet snack. Don't let "over $30 per entree" scare you off from the dinner or late-night, as all the dinner appetizers can be ordered ala carte for, I believe, $10, and the late night tapas range from $8 to $12. Let Adam guide you through the sake and wine list, or head next door to Pangea after dining to enjoy one of Brad's creative cocktails.

This is one of the best restaurants in Sarasota. Very creative, delicious food that is well worth every penny. Lan also strives to use local ingredients, which it a big plus for me. The Prix Fixe includes an appetizer, a main course and a desert.
