We have been fans of Selwyn Birchwood for years (perhaps you saw our April cover story on him). Now, it seems the whole blues world has finally become a fan of the Tampa-based singer, songwriter, guitarist and ace showman. Credit winning concerts nationwide and his recently released Alligator Records debut "Don't Call No Ambulance." In addition to rave reviews in the main blues publications, Rolling Stone gave the record a glowing write-up.
"His band, his material, and both his skilled guitaring and soulful vocals are the essence of fully-formed; Birchwood is a major player, the sort of artist that assures his blues-devoted label many more years of prominence to come, and most importantly, a damn fine listen through and through," reads the RS review. "Highly recommended."
Yep, we agree. And we highly recommend catching Birchwood and his band perform Saturday at the intimate Blue Rooster. It probably won't be long before he's playing strictly festivals and larger, pricier venues.
