Labor Day Showcase Tournament — Saturday through Monday (Aug. 30-Sept. 1). The Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch will host its annual Labor Day weekend soccer tournament, with players, parents and spectators from all over the state converging at the PSC for the Chargers Soccer Club’s 2014 Labor Day Showcase. Several competing teams are from Sarasota and Manatee counties, with about 90 percent coming from outside the area. The age groups represented will be U11 through U18 for both boys and girls. The event is free and open to the public; parking is also free. Games are scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday; and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday.

Gulfport’s 14th annual GeckoFest — 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 30). Along Beach Boulevard in the waterfront village of Gulfport, in south Pinellas County. Hundreds of vendors and dozens of live musicians on two stages, plus acrobats, aerialists, break dancers, escape artists, magicians, jugglers, fire performers and more. Free. GeckoFest.com.

Sidewalk Astronomy — 7:50-10 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 30). After a two-month summer hiatus, the Local Group of Deep Sky Observers, a Bradenton/Sarasota group of astronomy enthusiasts, returns with its first Sidewalk Astronomy event of the 2014-2015 observing season. Weather permitting, the members of the Local Group will set up their high-quality telescopes for public viewing in the field due north of the Holmes Beach City Hall, 5801 Marina Drive in Holmes Beach, Florida. The highlight of the evening will be views of the ringed planet Saturn. Following Saturday’s event, the planet will not be readily visible during Sidewalk Astronomy again until next May. The astronomers will also offer those in attendance close-up views of the first-quarter moon and Mars and other celestial objects. Free. 342-9632; LGDSO.com.

Ober Rivers & His D.U.I.’s — 1-5 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 31). The eclectic group from Bradenton is shooting a live video at Snook Haven, 5000 E. Venice Ave., Venice. Two videographers will be on hand to capture their performance. Free. 485-7221; snookhaven.com.

Classic and Collector Car Show — 3-8 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 31). Part of the Englewood Pioneer Days Park Festivals on Dearborn Street. On Labor Day, classic and collector cars will end the Englewood Pioneer Days Parade and then park on Dearborn Street for festivalgoers to see. Registration for the event, including the parade, is free, but spaces are limited. There will be a Mayor’s Trophy awarded each day. Music on Sunday will be provided by Tom’s Traveling Tunes.
