Sylph Quintet – Two appearances: 7 p.m. Thursday (July 31), Lakeside Lutheran Church, 2401 Tamiami Trail S., Venice; and 7-9 p.m. Friday (Aug. 1), Cornerstone Church of Lakewood Ranch, 14306 Covenant Way. New York-based oboist and Sarasota native Ian Shafer is bringing his newly formed quintet to the area for “An Enchanted Evening with the Oboe.” In its program, the oboe/string quartet will offer the Florida premiere of a long-forgotten work by oboist Alphons Barret. $10 suggested donation.

Music on Main – 6-9 p.m. Friday (Aug. 1). Kettle of Fish is the featured act at this First Friday event on Lakewood Ranch Main Street. Proceeds from food and drink sales will benefit the Lakewood Ranch Community Fund. You can bring chairs (but not coolers); dogs are welcome but must be leashed. lakewoodranch.com/musiconmain. Summer Chef Jam – 8 p.m. Monday (Aug. 4). The summerlong event continues at Shamrock Pub, with the chef from Cafe Americano providing the menu.
