From family fun to rum drinking, the 6th annual Fishermen's Village Pirate Fest in Punta Gorda this weekend promises something for the swashbuckler in all of us. Organizers invite attendees to join in the three-day celebration of Punta Gorda's maritime history in "true pirate fashion as we turn the clocks back to the golden age of piracy!" From one end of Fishermen's Village to the other, festival-goers can view the pirate boat parade, hear the blast of cannons, visit a pirate encampment, browse the vendors, grab a cold beer, see Blackbeard’s Pirate Ship and, reads the website, "even meet a live mermaid."

Noon-6 p.m. with the Pirates Ball from 8-11 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. Sunday; Fishermen's Village, 1200 W. Retta Esplanade #57A, Punta Gorda; free; (561) 792-9260; fishermensvillagepiratefest.com.
