There are more ways than just fireworks to celebrate our country's biggest holiday. For instance, The Nokomis Vintage & Craft Market at Rum Runner's Antiques Village is making a weekend of it and having an Independence Day Festival on Friday and Saturday. The outdoor market will feature live music by members of Tampa's top roots reggae act, Tribal Style. There will also be live art by Truman Adams, hula hooping demos by Peace, Love & Hoopiness as well as dozens of local vintage and craft Merchants.

Plus, don't forget to appreciate some of the history. Rum Runner's Antiques' main building was designed in the 1920s by the architect Thomas Reed Martin for the surgeon and entrepreneur, Dr. Fred Albee, who also owned the original Venice-Nokomis Bank building next door, which Rum Runner's also has recently restored. The buildings are on the Sarasota County Register of Historic Places.

10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; Rum Runner's Antiques, 106 Pocono Trail E., Nokomis; free; 854-1991; theNokomisArtMarket.com.
