Ariel Quartet to conclude its Beethoven Cycle with two concerts

The Ariel Quartet will complete its six-month series of concerts in which they will perform all Beethoven's string quartets with concerts May 15 and 16.

"The Beethoven Cycle" is part of the Perlman Music Program/Suncoast's Emerging Artists Performance Series. The Ariel Quartet is comprised of PMP alumni who return to Sarasota-Manatee every year as part of PMP's educational outreach program. The quartet began the Beethoven Cycle last October to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the PMP/Suncoast Winter Residency for young string musicians.

Thursday's  concert will include Op. 18, No. 5, Op. 130 and Op. 133. Friday, the quartet will perform Op. 18, No. 6, Op. 74, "Harp," and Op. 132.

Performances are at 7 p.m. in Selby Auditorium at USF Sarasota-Manatee, 8350 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Tickets are $20.

Additionally, the quartet will present a free recital at 7 p.m. May 19 at the Polo Grill and Bar ballroom, 10670 Boardwalk Loop, Lakewood Ranch. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.; the performance will be followed by a Q&A session.
