The Sarasota Opera has once again hired a former singer with a background in communication to be its director of Marketing.
Carlos Vicente, originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, comes to Sarasota Opera from the Houston symphony, where was Director of Marketing for Subscriptions. In Houston, he also was responsible for the company’s single ticket program, digital media and creative services.
Sarasota opera said that Vicente expanded Houston Symphony’s national and local profile and “designed and implemented pricing and customer retention strategies during the recession that yielded an annual growth of 12 percent each year.”
“As a former singer, I knew of Sarasota Opera’s reputation a sa world-class American opera company,” Vicente said in a statement. “After spending seven years marketing a symphony orchestra, an opera company will be an exciting new challenge. Plus, I can’t wait to learn more about this vibrant community.”
Richard Russell, the company’s executive director, is a former opera singer who previously spent five years as marketing director for Sarasota Opera. Vicente succeeds Greg Parry, who left the company in October after two years as marketing director.
Several members of the company's administrative staff also are former opera singers.
Vicente, 43, has a bachelor’s degree in English from Pontifical Catholic University in Brazil, a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Texas Christian University and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Rice University.
