SCF Showcases Student Artwork – Annual juried SCF Student Art Exhibitions featuring the best artwork produced by State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) students in the 2013-2014 academic year will be featured at opening receptions noon-2 p.m. Thursday (April 3) in the library at SCF Venice, 8000 S. Tamiami Trail, building 300, and 6-8 p.m. April 11 in the Fine Art Gallery at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W. The receptions are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

17th annual Crawfish Festival – Friday-Sunday at Cajun Cafe on the Bayou, 8101 Park Blvd., Pinellas Park. Arts and Crafts Show – 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday (April 5); 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday (April 6). The free outdoor event will benefit the Anna Maria Island Butterfly Park, being held at the Holmes Beach City Hall Field, 5801 Marina Drive. Sidewalk Astronomy – 7:50-10 p.m. Saturday (April 5). The Local Group of Deep Sky Observers, a Bradenton/Sarasota group of astronomy enthusiasts, will set up their telescopes for public viewing at Lakewood Ranch Main Street. The North Port Chorale – 7 p.m. Saturday (April 5). Under the direction of Jeffrey Herbert, the chorale will present "Hats Off to Hollywood" and "A Salute to Our Troops" at the North Port Performing Arts Center, 6400 W. Price Blvd. The 70-member community chorus will sing songs from well-known Hollywood movies of yesteryear and today, as well as patriotic songs. Suncoast Concert Band – Two shows: 3 p.m. Sunday (April 6) and 10:30 a.m. Monday (April 7). During Sunday's show, the band will revisit Broadway show tunes. $5. Monday's hourlong performance is a free recital. Books & Coffee – 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (April 8). Presented by Friends of the Selby Public Library at Selby Library’s Geldbart Auditorium, 1331 First St., Sarasota. "Woody Allen on Woody Allen" will be reviewed by Gus Mollasis, co-producer, host, writer, researcher and host/co-producer of the PBS series, "Diamonds Along the Highway."
