Running and walking are always healthy and, when done with a large group, can be lots of fun, especially when it's for a good cause. Saturday is the 28th Annual Run for the Turtles. The event supports sea turtle conservation and research at Mote Marine Laboratory and is the Sea Turtle Conservation Program's major fundraiser. So, get out there and help Mote help those adorably sluggish sea turtles! Speaking of sluggish, in addition to the 5K run there's also a 1 mile run/walk, for those of us who prefer to help the turtles by traveling more at their pace.
6:30 a.m. (registration), 8 a.m. (race) Saturday; Siesta Key Beach, 948 Beach Road, Sarasota; registration is $35 for adults, $25 for children 10 and under; 388-4441; mote.org.
