Barrel-aged beer release Saturday at Motorworks in Bradenton

/

Motorworks BrewingBradenton's first production craft brewery, Motorworks Brewing, is releasing a special beer Saturday morning.

Starting at 11 a.m. you can try Whiskey Smoke for free with the purchase of a commemorative Motorworks pint glass, the brewery says. The beer is a German-style rauchbier, or smoke beer, that's aged in Jack Daniel's whiskey barrels.

Here's how Motorworks head brewer Bob Haa Jr. describes the beer on Motorworks' Facebook page:

"It's flavor is a balance of smoke and oak whiskey. Alcohol taste is present. It has a warming quality, but smooth subtle flavor of vanilla. The balance of flavor tends to change as it warms."

I'm a fan of smoked beers, though the first time I tried one (Rogue's Smoke Ale) I thought it was the worst beer I'd ever had. I can say that the taste grows on you.

Check out the event's Facebook page for more information.
