By my calculations, the roads should've been empty last weekend. And I can tell you why. Because everyone in Sarasota went to see new Sarasota resident Rosie O'Donnell at McCurdy's.
OK, pardon my exaggeration but you would've made the same call after looking at my Facebook feed all weekend. Everyone I know was posting about going to see Rosie.
I'm no different from the rest of the herd. I was one of the first to buy tickets when she was supposed to perform in January before an abscessed tooth spoiled the fun and caused the reschedule.
I've been a Rosie fan since back in her VH-1 Stand-Up Spotlight days and was a faithful viewer of her daytime talk show until college classes got in the way.
Apparently, I'm not the only one. Her shows sold out quickly. The night I was there, I spotted Laura Gale, Alice Bee, Bob Trisolini, Christine Alexander, John Revisky, ALSO Youth's Donna Hanley, and Charlie Huisking. And that was just one of the six sold-out shows she did last weekend!
I laughed like a fool. She threw in a few "A League of Their Own" references for fans of her film work and laid out some hysterical tales of motherhood.
My only regret? I hopped in my car after the show to head home, realizing the next day that Rosie posed for photos with just about all of my friends. Hmph. This is why you never leave the party early.
