It's difficult to imagine a better location for a classic, sexy burlesque show than the century-old Gator Club in downtown Sarasota. The producer of Sarasota's own Black Diamond Burlesque must feel the same way because she's returning again with her titillating troupe for another "peep show" Thursday featuring, among others, standout performer Miss Petite Coquette (pictured). The revue is billed as a "a speakeasy-style mini-performance featuring the dames and dandies of Black Diamond Burlesque." It's aimed to allow patrons "a tasting of what they do in their full productions, in this historic setting of The Gator Club's upstairs bordello."

As for the "upstairs bordello" part, it's probably true. “This is where the madam’s cage was,” Larry Siegel, current owner of The Gator Club, explained during an interview last year as he pointed to a small portal by the upstairs bathrooms. “Customers would ring a bell and pay their money here and the madam would call the girls out.” Siegel then walked to the windows by the billiards tables and explained that each one represented a narrow room where the prostitutes would bring their johns. “They didn’t need much space,” he said, “just enough for a twin bed.”

8:30-10 p.m. Thursday, March 27,  The Gator Club, 1490 Main St., Sarasota; $10; 366-5969; thegatorclub.com.
