Four new shows opening at Art Center Sarasota for March cycle


Four exhibits showcasing works by emerging Israeli artists, fine art jewelry, repurposed donated artwork and an all-media juried exhibition make up the March exhibition cycle at Art Center Sarasota.

"Confluence: Israel," in Galley 1, is a collaboration with the Jewish Federation of Sarasota-Manatee. Curator Shosh Dagan has brought together painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, woodwork, video, jewelry and embroidery. One of the artists, Ohad Zlotnick, who creates three-dimensional metal sculptures of Hebrew letters, will give an artist's talk at 2 p.m. Friday.

"MASHterpieces," a collaboration between Goodwill Sarasota and, in Gallery 2, is an exhibition of works created by artists who used art found at a Goodwill retail store as the basis for new pieces.

Several jewelry artists, using materials from metals to sticks and stones, have work included in "The Secret Life of Jewelry" in Gallery 3. American artists Christine J. Brandt, Andrea Williams, Cheryl Eve Acosta and Kathleen Carricaburu, and Israeli jewelers Vered Babai and Edda Vardimon will have work on display.

"One World" in Gallery 4 is an open, all-media exhibition; juror was Kristin DuFrain, the curator/registrar at GraphicStudio.

The exhibitions open with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. March 13 at Art Center Sarasota, 707 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, and continue through April 25. For more information: 365-2032;
