Children’s Activities at Palmetto Heritage Day — 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday (March 8). Palmetto Historical Park and Manatee County Agricultural Museum, 1015 6th St. W. The North River Fire Department will be operating a Children’s Fire Challenge where children will get to try on mini fire gear, spray a water hose, and assume other firefighter duties. Throughout the day: craft projects, writing letters to soldiers, participating in a Kids’ Basic Training Obstacle, the FFA goat petting corral, and First Baptist Church of Palmetto will be providing free train rides to children. Sun Circle Art Festival — 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday (March. 8). Sponsored by the Indian Beach Sapphire Shores Association. In the heart of the Museum District, on Sarasota Bay, Sapphire Shores Park is on Sun Circle at Acacia Drive, just a few blocks from the Ringling Museum. Sidewalk Astronomy — Sunset-10 p.m. Saturday (March 8). The Local Group of Deep Sky Observers, a Bradenton/Sarasota group of astronomy enthusiasts, will set up their high-quality telescopes for public viewing at Lakewood Ranch Main Street in the south parking lot.
