If doesn't matter if you are 21 or 92, if you are fortunate to be holding tickets for Tony Bennett's Friday performance at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota you have pretty much guaranteed yourself a wonderful, romantic and memorable Valentine Day. Bennett, singular and sonorous, is the greatest living interpreter of the Great American Songbook. He's capable of crooning a cupid-approved pop ballad and nailing a swinging jazz number with equal aplomb. Bennett is also an affable entertainer who knows how to make everyone in the room feel like a special guest.
Yes, he's 87 years old but Bennett's performances continue to impress audience members and critics alike. Over at the Ticketmaster Fans Review page, 1,464 of 1,534 (95 percent) of reviewers would recommend a Bennett concert to a friend. The headline of a recent review in the Dallas Morning News reads, "Tony Bennett’s rich vocals wow the crowd at the Winspear Opera House."
