Big Cat Habitat’s annual fundraiser – the Animal Extravaganza – kicks off on Saturday, promising six weekends of shows and events. The main attraction is a two-hour animal demonstration that will feature lions, chimps, elephants, bears, birds, cats, dogs and other animal performers. Gates will open an hour and a half before the show to allow visitors to view the Habitat's animal residents, participate in the petting zoo and elephant, camel and pony rides, and have a bite to eat, including Sam’s special barbecue. Monies raised provide for the care of Big Cat Habitat’s exotic and other animals that traditional animal shelters will not take.
Gates open at Noon and 3 p.m., shows begin at 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., Saturday-Sunday; Big Cat Habitat, 7101 Palmer Blvd., Sarasota; $18 adults, $7 children; 371-6377; bigcathabitat.com.
