Here's an exciting event for musicians serious about making it in the biz. Real People Real Music & DQ Events are bringing PJ Morton to Sarasota next month for a master class and musical showcase appearance at Louies Modern's banquet room The Francis. New Orleans native Morton is a singer, musician and producer with a most impressive resumé.

Bishop Paul Morton and his son PJ Morton, front, were nominated for Grammy Awards, making them the first father and son to be nominated in 15 years. They were photographed at Bishop Morton's home in New Orleans, Thursday, December 26, 2013.

The keyboardist and backup singer for Maroon 5, PJ Morton and his dad, Bishop Paul Morton, are nominated for best gospel album for "Best Days Yet,” the elder Morton’s album featuring four songs PJ wrote and produced. PJ’s song, the Stevie Wonder-featured "Only One," from PJ's album "New Orleans" also featuring guest appearances by Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes and Adam Levine, is also up for best R&B song. The Mortons are the first to father and son to be nominated for Grammys in the same year since Bob and Jakob Dylan were up for awards in 1998. The Grammy Awards are Jan. 26 on CBS.

Morton will be at The Francis, 1289 N. Palm Ave.,  to conduct a master class on songwriting, placement, and indie vs. major label artist options from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8. The musical showcase/open mic will be the same day from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. and feature bands of two of Sarasota's top drummers, James Varnado (formerly of Dickey Betts & Great Southern) and Etienne Porter (of Drummerboy Entertainment).
