The Preservation Hall Jazz Band has been a New Orleans institution for a half century but while the ensemble continues to promote the Crescent City's singular style of jazz music (swing, blues and gospel are the main ingredients), the group is also expanding its sound.

Released last summer, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band's "That's It!" marks the group's first album ever of all-original material. Credit bassist, tuba player and band leader Ben Jaffe, who produced the fun and forward-thinking album with My Morning Jacket's Jim James.

7 p.m. Sunday; Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota; $25-$40; 953-3368; vanwezel.org.
