"300 More Beers to Try Before You Die!"Two craft breweries from Florida have been recognized for having must-try beers.

"300 More Beers to Try Before You Die!" (CAMARA books, $24.95), by Roger Protz, calls out Maduro Brown Ale and Marshal Zhukov's Imperial Stout by Tampa brewery Cigar City Brewing Co., along with Swamp Ape IPA by Florida Beer Co. in Cape Canaveral. The English book, published this month, is described as "a personal selection of beers, from one of the world's leading beer writers."

Here's an excerpt on each one:

Swamp Ape IPA (p. 37): "The beer is deceptively pale -- gold with a hint of bronze -- and it has an enormous aroma of over-ripe pears and equally squashy strawberries, balanced by an explosion of spicy, floral and grassy hops and a smoky note from the malt. ... It's a monster of a beer."

Maduro Brown Ale (p. 77): "The palate is delightfully clean and quenching, the rich dark grain and chocolate beautifully balanced by increasing hop bitterness."

Marshal Zhukov's Imperial Stout (p. 159): "You can tell the Cold War is dead and buried when a brewery in Florida names a beer in honour of a Hero of the Soviet Union. ... The palate is a stunning blend of roasted grain, bitter hopes, burnt fruit, coffee and chocolate, while the finish has some lingering sweetness from the rich blend of dark malts."

The book is available in bookstores now.
