SCF Jazz Bands — 8 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 5). The State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo will present a historical anthology of jazz music featuring pieces from the swing era to the modern era in a concert in Neel Performing Arts Center at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W. AIDS Walk Sarasota/Manatee — 8 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 7) at JD Hamel Park, at Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue in downtown Sarasota. The walk, with more than 500 participants, will proceed over Ringling Bridge. Money raised supports the programs of Trinity Charities, Inc. There will also be food, raffles, music and prizes. Gulf Gate Festival — 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 7) at St. Andrew United Church of Christ, 6908 Beneva Road, Sarasota. Kids can “walk the wire with a Wallenda” (wire is 2 feet off the ground). Bounce house, art display and projects. Stories by fire and police chiefs. Music by troubadour Bill Schustik, plus folk, gospel and barbershop. Food by Gulf Gate restaurants. Sidewalk Astronomy — 5:30-10 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 7). The Local Group of Deep Sky Observers will set up their telescopes for public viewing in the field due north of the Holmes Beach City Hall, 5801 Marina Drive. Rock Hall of Fame at planetarium — 8:15 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 7). This show at South Florida Museum's Bishop Planetarium is 45 minutes of computer-generated animations set to rock music. Arrive early for a new program, SpacePark 360, which recreates the experience of amusement park rides from the rider's perspective atop Jupiter's clouds to the icy depths of Neptune's moon Triton. After 4 p.m., entrance is $8 adults/$7 seniors (65+)/$6 kids (4-12). Shows are included in entrance fee. 201 10th St. W., Bradenton.

Advent Program at Siesta Key Chapel — 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday (Dec. 8). The Siesta Key Chapel Adult Choir, soloists, and instrumentalists from the Sarasota Orchestra will perform Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria.” Siesta Key Chapel, 4615 Gleason Ave., Sarasota. 349-1166.

A Tribute to Peggy Lee — 8 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 8). Mindy Simmons and her jazz trio will perform classics from the jazz/popular music legend.
