The Culture Club, a group organized to celebrate and promote the work of new and obscure artists, will host its first public event on Friday, December 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the HuB, 1680 Fruitville Rd. in Sarasota.
Local artists are asked to submit examples of their work — visual art, music, dance, or creative readings — to email@example.com. The event will be a showcase, not an open mic, so in order to be considered for inclusion, all work must be submitted in advance.
The Culture Club began with the idea of celebrating the art of a group of talented friends, many of them graduates of Booker High School's Visual and Performing Arts program. Initially held in participants' living rooms and kitchens, the Culture Club has now expanded into a movement dedicated to promoting new talent — ranging from visual art installations, spoken word and poetry performances, to live music and dance — with regular public showings.
The event is 18+ and there is no cover charge. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.
