Beer: Elissa IPA

Brewery: Saint Arnold Brewing Co., Texas

Notes: Houston craft brewery Saint Arnold will be expanding into Florida's Gulf Coast this month. The brewery sent me a few bottles in advance.

Pours a medium amber in color with a big off-white head that reduces to a slender layer in my glass. Mild citrus/metallic hop aroma.

The flavor is nicely bitter, with caramel and biscuit flavors from the malt. Saint Arnold says they only use one type of hop in this beer: Cascades. It has a sharp, metallic/bitter aftertaste. Very nice. I like IPAs, like this one, that aren't super dry.

Overall a very good IPA that can compete with the best of them. This is the Saint Arnold beer to look for, based on the ones I've had. Of course, I'm a known hophead, so there's that bias.

I'll be very interested to find out its price: will it outprice itself against the superb Sierra Nevada Torpedo? A slightly higher price may be worth it, I dare say Elissa is better than Torpedo. But if it gets upwards of $10 per six-pack, I would pass it over for fresh Cigar City Jai Alai.
