There won't actually be "76 Trombones," but you get the song and a lot more with the State College of Florida Music Program's production of "The Music Man."
Alex Zickafoose stars as the traveling salesman Prof. Harold Hill, who plans to hoodwink the good folks of River City, Iowa by selling instruments for their kids, thinking they're going to form a band. But before he can head out of town with his profits, he realizes he's fallen in love with the town librarian and piano teacher Marion Paroo, played by Lauren Nielsen.
Meredith Willson's hit musical features such songs as " 'Till There Was You,” “Ya Got Trouble," "My White Knight," "Goodnight, My Someone," "Shipoopi" and “Gary, Indiana.”
The show is performed by a 40-member cast under the direction of Melodie Dickerson. Rex Willis is the music director and Kelly Burnette is the choreographer.
The musical will be presented at 8 p.m. Nov. 1-2 and 2 p.m. Nov. 3 in the Neel Performing Arts Center 5840 26th St. W., on the SCF Bradenton campus. Tickets are $12., $6 for students and SCF employees. For more information; 752-5252; scf.edu/musicevents
