Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens — Thursday-Saturday nights through Oct. 26. Howl-O-Scream 2013 unleashes thirteen evils, including #7 Surgeon, #4 Butcher, #11 Psychopath, #13 Clown, #6 Voodoo Queen and their demented friends. Expect a host of scary thrills, new haunted houses and plenty of live entertainment. If you hate waiting in lines, there are a bunch of different upgrades to your ticket that will get you everything from front-of-the-line access to a private tour led by a Busch Gardens employee. $55-$159. 10001 N. Mickey's Not-So- Scary Halloween Party — Children dressed as a scarecrow, Minnie Mouse and Tinker Bell march along with Dopey at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Don your favorite costume and get ready to trick-or-treat at this Halloween-themed event in Magic Kingdom park in Orlando — on select nights from 7 p.m. to midnight, through Nov. 1. Tickets start at $62.

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando — Various nights through Nov. 2. Another theme park transformed into an exciting horrorscape, Halloween Horror Nights has the added benefit of attractions themed after a host of hit horror movies and games, including “Resident Evil,” “The Walking Dead,” “Cabin in the Woods” and more. Mote's Night of Fish, Fun & Fright — 6:30-9 p.m. Oct. 18. Children are invited to a safe and fun trick-or-treating zone in The Aquarium at Mote Marine Laboratory, 1600 Ken Thompson Parkway, Sarasota. The event includes underwater pumpkin carving by aquarists in the shark exhibit and a haunted house. Tickets are $6 online in advance, $10 at the door. Hunsader Farms Pumpkin Festival — 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 19-20 and Oct. 26-27. Spirit Voices From Old Manatee — Performance dates: Oct. 17-19 at Manatee Village Historical Park. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. $17 after Oct. 9 or at the gate. Tour the Old Manatee Burying Grounds and witness costumed actors bring to life those interred, under the artistic direction of actor-musician-director Mark Woodland. Zombie Zip Tour at TreeUmph! — 7:30-10:30 p.m. every Fri. and Sat. through Nov. 2. Thrill-seekers ages 9 and up can check out TreeUmph! Adventure Course for the haunted walk and Zombie Zipline. Guests will walk along a designated path through Zombie Land in the dark 14-acre forest. Poe at the Crosley and The House of Horrors — 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 21-24 and Oct. 27-30. The Powel Crosley Estate will host a one-hour live performance based on the writings of Edgar Alan Poe followed by a self-guided tour of the carriage house. "RiffTrax Live: Night of the Living Dead" — 8 p.m. Oct. 24. Hollywood Stadium 20, 1993 Main St., Sarasota. The RiffTrax crew — Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett, all of "Mystery Science Theater 3000" fame — will take on the classic 1968 zombie film in select theaters across the country for one night only, including Hollywood 20.

Haunted Trails at Oscar Scherer State Park — 8-10 p.m. Oct. 25-26. Two trails: a scary haunted trail and a not-so-scary trick-or-treat trail with activity booths and candy stations for kids. Trunk or Treat — 4-6 p.m. Oct. 26. The Pittsburgh Pirates and Bradenton Marauders will open McKechnie Field for this free trick-or-treating event. Trunk or Treat allows children to trick-or-treat in a safe environment, receiving candy from Halloween-themed vehicles. Other activities include hayrides around the ballpark, inflatables, a DJ, and cookie decorating. Englewood’s Halloween Costume Party — 7 p.m.-midnight Oct. 26 at the newly renovated Englewood Event Center, 3069 S. McCall Road. The evening will feature party dance band Zombie University. There will be food, drinks, dancing, games and costume contests. Cash prizes for the three best costumes will be $50, $100 and $150.
