Those of you who caught the Sai Nrityalaya Dance Troupe's recent performance -- or read my review -- may be interested in learning more about the Indian classical dance form known as Bharatanatyam.
Now you have the chance to do just that. Shaila Sateesh, the creative director of Sai Nrityalaya, a native of India who has been teaching in the Sarasota area for over a decade, is offering a one-time "Introduction to Bharatanatyam" workshop on Saturday, October 5. The two-hour session includes a brief history of the dance form and instruction in basic technique from 2 to 3 p.m. and the opportunity to learn a short, traditional dance from 3 to 4 p.m. Traditional refreshments will be served at the workshop's conclusion.
The workshop will take place at the Pilates Plus Studio, 7354 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota and costs $40 per person. To register, call 780-6386 or email Sateesh at firstname.lastname@example.org. Deadline for registration is September 28.
