Five dancers of the Sarasota Ballet have received promotions for the 2013-2014 season.

Juan Gil, Kristianne Kleine, Ellen Overstreet, Elizabeth Sykes and Sareen Tchekmedyian were all promoted from the corps de ballet to the coryphee. All have been with the company between one year (Overstreet) and five years (Sykes).

In addition, Edward Gonzalez, the Cuban defector hired by the ballet over the summer, will assume the rank of soloist.

Some familiar names will be missing from the stage this year.

Rita Duclos, who married in July, is now dancing in Europe. Principal Sara Sardelli retired in August and assumed the newly-created position of Outreach Director with the ballet. And several corps members are not returning, including Steven Windsor and Kohhei Kuwana. Ian Tanzer of "Breaking Pointe" fame, is the newest addition to the corps.
