Raise a glass for a local band with its very own award-winning beer.

Bradenton-based Americana group Have Gun, Will Travel's High Road Ale, a joint production with Rock Brothers Brewing Company and Cigar City Brewing, took first place in the southeast region before winning the National Grand Championship by beating regional winners from five other geographic regions at the United States Beer Tasting Competition.

HGWT_High_Road_Ale“There were some kick ass beers we were competing against,” said Joe Redner of Cigar City Brewing, the Tampa Bay brewery that creates the beer for the bands with whom Rock Brothers partners.

The United States Beer Tasting Competition brought together more than 100 breweries and 500-plus craft beers. This was the 19th year of the competition and the third National Grand Championship for Cigar City Brewery.

“This goes way beyond what we hoped for with the launch of our first product,” said Kevin Lilly, of Rock Brothers Brewing Company, in a statement.

High Road Ale -- a 5.3% alcohol by volume beer featuring hints of citrus -- was developed earlier this year for Have Gun, Will Travel.
