Sarasota brewery JDub's signs with distributor J.J. Taylor

/

JDub's Brewing Co.Planned Sarasota craft brewery JDub's Brewing Co. has partnered with distributor J.J. Taylor, according to a blog post by the distributor. I can't say their choice of distributors is a surprise; J.J. Taylor (which also distributes MillerCoors beers) works with many craft breweries, including Tampa Bay area breweries Saint Somewhere and Cigar City. JDub's would be Sarasota County's first production brewery.

The company will distribute the brewery's beers to bars and stores. Law requires distributors; JDub's can't sell directly to retailers, though they will have a tap room at the brewery at 1215 Mango Ave. in Sarasota.

As I wrote before, their first two beers will be Up Top! IPA and a yet-to-be-named German pilsner, brewed by brewmaster Mike McCarthy. The post says draft distribution is expected to begin in September with a grand opening of the Sarasota tap room in late October.

For those who aren't in the Florida beer industry, picking a distributor is a major move. Sunshine State laws make it very difficult for a brewery to change distributors without major financial penalties.

Here's a photo J.J. Taylor tweeted with the JDub's crew:
