Comedian, actor and author Russell Brand's Messiah Complex World Tour has a Sept. 20 date at Ferguson Hall inside Tampa's Straz Center for the Performing Arts.

Regularly priced tickets start at $35.

The British host of the FX series "Brand X with Russell Brand" announced Thursday (June 6), that he's launching a world comedy tour focusing on Che Guevara, Gandhi, Malcolm X and Jesus Christ. Brand said, in a statement, the show examines “the importance of heroes in this age of atheistic disposability.” The “Messiah Complex” tour is set to begin Aug. 15 in Abu Dhabi and finish Dec. 9 in Iceland.

According to today's press release from the Straz,  it's Brand's "first ever world stand-up tour" and "will be a dissection of various social and religious figures and the reality of their lives through comparisons of each other ... Plus there's sex. Obviously."

Aside from his brief marriage to pop star Katy Perry, Brand is probably best known for playing rocker Aldous Snow in the Judd Apatow-produced comedies "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Get Him to the Greek." Brand's other film credits include "Rock of Ages," "Arthur," "Bedtime Stories" and "The Tempest." Brand has also written two books, "My Booky Wook: A Memoir of Sex, Drugs and Stand-Up" and "Booky Wook 2: This Time It's Personal."

This show is for mature audiences. Tickets may be purchased by calling (800) 955-1045, in person at the Straz Center ticket office or online at www.strazcenter.org.
