In less than three weeks, I've consumed eight burgers at various restaurants and beach bars from Sarasota to Bradenton to Anna Maria Island. Noshed on ground beef of varying flavors and shapes served between an assortment of buns with everything from marbled blue cheese to baby bella mushrooms to barbacoa. Did I mention many of these burgers were also covered in layers of bacon? Last weekend, my amazing wife decided I desperately needed a vacation from meat.

We went to Sage Biscuit Cafe, a favorite breakfast and lunch destination spot of ours, and I forced my eyes away from such carnivorous delights as the Sage Biscuit House Cured Pastrami, Corned Beef Melt,Ultimate Cheese Steak, Classic Cheeseburger and ordered the Homemade Veggie Burger. Would I enjoy this ground beef substitute? Our server promised I would not regret my decision.

Wow. It had been a long time since I had consumed a veggie burger and this one hit the spot. A homemade patty of healthiness with fresh roasted vegetables and black beans nicely grilled and smothered in sharp cheddar cheese topped with field greens and tasty tomato. A pepper mustard spread on the brioche roll sealed the deal, leaving me more than satisfied with my meat-free selection that also included a killer side of cucumber chickpea salad. Paired nicely with the Bells Two Hearted Ale, a mildly hoppy IPA.

May is Burger Month here at Ticket and we want to know where you go for beef on a bun. Go to our Burger Month page to see other reviews, read about making your own excellent burgers at home, or tell us about your favorite burger below:
