Michael Jackson 'Beer Hunter' director to attend Sarasota screening

The late beer writer Michael Jackson.

The craft beer world owes a huge debt to Michael Jackson. No, not that Michael Jackson. I'm talking about the late British journalist whose 1977 book "The World Guide to Beer" was the first of its kind. Jackson's writing and 1993 T.V. series "The Beer Hunter" inspired many brewers and beer geeks, including me. Jackson was the most influential beer writer out there.

J.R. Richards, a colleague of Jackson's, has directed "Beer Hunter," a documentary tribute to Jackson, who died in 2007 at 65.

Mr. Beery's (2645 Mall Drive, 343-2854) will be hosting a free screening of the movie on May 28 a 7 p.m., and Richards will be on hand to talk about it and answer questions.
