Everything is better with bacon. The same can be said for peanut butter, right? At least that’s the philosophy of “The Matty Matt” at Full Belly Stuffed Burgers in east Manatee County.

Pinki Goolsby and Matt Holt, mother and son owners of the restaurant that opened in January, call the joint a “destination,” offering burgers stuffed with various combinations of cheese, bacon, breaded jalapeno poppers – and you guessed it – peanut butter. Devoted to creating an adventurous meal to its patrons, the restaurant offers an assortment of unique craft beers and sodas – thumbs up to the root beer – produced locally in Sarasota.

Passing over the less frightening cheddar bacon and garlic parmesan burgers, Holt pushes the burger his brother, Shane Keinz, created just for him. Hold the veggies. Extra maple syrup for dipping, please. Placed between a toasted St. Armands Baking Company bun, the 6-ounce burger boasting a nice char appears normal at first glance. A bite or two in, and creamy peanut butter is oozing from the meat. The texture is a bit unusual at first, but the flavor mixture of the juicy burger, what’s inside and the warm syrup is worth the adjustment to your palate. The bacon has less crunch than you might expect or desire from years of eating a burger topped with the crispy strips. The Matty Matt probably isn’t for everyone, but if you’re willing to taste something new – or just really love peanut butter and bacon – give it a try.
