Duffy’s Cheeseburger “All the Way,” $5.80
Duffy’s Tex Burger “All the Way,” $6.80
5808 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach
The Geyer family has been delighting locals and tourists alike at Duffy’s Tavern with their “world famous” burgers and “coldest beer this side of Heaven” since 1971. The beef is seasoned with a smart amount of salty deliciousness and grilled to a slightly crispy well done. Despite the relative svelteness of the patties there’s ample flavor left in the juicy middle, making each of the several burger selections the ideal meal after a day at the beach. Pair the burger with a $1 draft of Budweiser served in an icy mug – pitchers cost a measly $5 – and you might just want to spend the entire day at Duffy’s.
The “all the way” Cheeseburger lives up to its famed billing with a perky sesame seed bun featuring a couple slices of yellow American cheese just like Mom served plopped atop that tasty patty with crisp iceberg lettuce, plump tomato slice, several white onion slices and a nice mayo foundation underneath. For extra flavor, try the Tex Burger, which for a mere dollar more comes with crunchy slices of bacon, cheddar and Duffy’s homemade barbecue sauce, a mildly tangy treat that does an outstanding job of complementing each bite of beef and pork.
Incidentally, Duffy's Tavern is a favorite place for rock stars. While my amazing wife and I noshed away on our burgers Sunday two guys from Georgia alternative rock band Dead Confederate were seated next to us enjoying burgers and beer. Also, Travis Clark, front man for platinum-selling pop-punk band We the Kings, recently told me Duffy's has “the best burger in the whole world.”
