Restaurant News: Grasshopper Mexican restaurant will open in May

/

Grasshopper Mexican Restaurant (7253 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, 923-3688), opening in mid-April, will feature “Mex-Tex soul food” in upbeat, brightly colored surroundings.

Dino Soto, who owns several other Grasshopper restaurants in Michigan and Ohio, is converting the former Shuck’s Seafood space into a casual eatery with bold colors and Mexican artifacts.

The Petite Deluxe Nachos are ideal lunch fare, while chimichangas and the Grasshopper signature wet burritos are dinner specialties. Standard variations of tacos, fajitas and quesadillas also are offered as well as a "Chaputizer," which consists of house-made tortilla chips served with a special green cheese sauce, guacamole and salsa.

Among South-of-the-border desserts are a decadent cheese cake burrito and bunelos-fried tortilla strips doused with cinnamon and sugar. A full bar provides cocktails, beer and wines.

Grasshopper will be open Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday until midnight and Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m.
