/

vFEAST19a.jpgPut on your favorite Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin playlist. It’s time to make your way to the perennially popular Venice Italian Feast and Carnival. The 25th anniversary edition promises to be another Chianti wine toast-worthy celebration of Italian cuisine, fun and heritage.

Held again on the Venice Municipal Airport festival grounds, with free admission and $4 parking, attendees can nosh on a wide variety of comfort foods today through Sunday.

The Italian-American culinary selections include pasta fagioli, stromboli, calzones and that tasty pastry zeppole. Fair food guilty pleasures like hot dogs, fries, ribs and gyros will be served, too. Beer and, yes, wine, are also on the menu.

Carnival rides and live music, mostly golden oldies acts, add to the charm of this community building and culture promoting event hosted by the Italian American Club of Venice.

4 p.m. today and Fri.; noon Sat. and Sun; Venice Municipal Airport, 150 Airport Ave. E., Venice; Free with $4 parking; (941) 486-1492; italianamericanclub.org

Why do they call it an Italian festival? The reality is.. The Venice Italian club only recognizes New York Italians, and not the actual people who were born and raised in Italy. Not too many people know the club discriminates against them!

It's a shame that the Herald Tribune will not publish a story that this club allowed unlicensed food vendors to sell food last year and that someone got critically ill and died. Why would the Tribune sponsor such willful voilation of the law? The paper was notified of a breaking story weeks ago and should have done the right thing and let the residents know that this happened. Instead they continue to tout one of the most unprofessionaly managed envents in the area. The festival has gone downhill over the last few years, has very little to do with Italians, is a money maker for the club and really doesn't help the community. Come on Tribune do the right thing and let the residents know about all the improper food handling so someone else doesn't die!

This event is the Italian version of the county fair
This event does not reflect the true Italian culture
People who attend this event are nothing but a bunch of "GAVONES"
I as a true Italian gentleman am boycotting this event and you should too

MattB: Yes I did read the article moron. The fact they have gyros and ribs and still have the nerve to call it an Italian Festival is the point. Let's not forget the Chinese food vendors I've seen there in the past. At least the VPD put a stop to the illegal gambling they ran there for years.
