New Belgium, maker of Fat Tire, hopes to be in Tampa soon

new-belgium-brewing-300x300The No. 1 beer question people ask me is "Where can I get Fat Tire?" The answer? Not in Florida. The closest state to sell beers from New Belgium of Fort Collins, Colo., (the maker of Fat Tire) is Georgia.

We know that New Belgium is building a brewery in North Carolina, which made me guess they would eventually sell their beers here in Florida.

Today, in two words, New Belgium put hope in the hearts of their Florida fans. A person on Twitter asked them when their beers would be in Tampa. Their response? "Hopefully soon." Here's the tweet:

Those two words leave a lot up in the air, however. When is "soon"? Is it this year? I'd bet not. Sierra Nevada is also building a North Carolina brewery and I don't think they expect it to be producing beer until 2014. I'd guess New Belgium wouldn't be any quicker. Another question: Just Tampa? If recent rollouts serve as a guide, New Belgium might debut in greater Tampa Bay and expand to other parts of Florida, similar to Green Flash. Of course, New Belgium could also go statewide from the start.

Regardless, this is exciting news.

Pj, exactly. I'd look for them once their new brewery is running.
