Creature Feature: Big Cat Habitat's Animal Extravaganza

/

SBigCat14g.jpgBig Cat Habitat’s big cat show — Animal Extravaganza — is back for the 2013 season. Your ticket helps support the animal sanctuary’s efforts, but you’ll get a lot for your good deed. Before the show you can feed and pet animals; ride elephants, camels and ponies; and gape at the sanctuary’s beautiful inhabitants. Then the seasoned animal trainers associated with the Habitat put on nearly two hours of entertaining animal antics, with you sitting mere feet away from some ferocious (but cuddly) creatures.

1:30 and 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary, 7101 Palmer Blvd., Sarasota; $18 for adults, $7 for kids; bigcathabitat.org.

It's NOT a sanctuary! It's a prison for animals. The cages are tiny, filthy, and without any plants or anything that makes it look more like a natural habitat. The tigers are housed in concrete boxes the size of my bedroom. This is NOT A SANCTUARY!

@Britta Beetz. This is an absolutely untruthful statement that is not based in any form of reality. What you describe can not even be a perception of someone because it is completely untrue. BCH is a 501 C-3 not for profit animal sanctuary. They provide a forever loving home FOR LIFE, for exotic animals that can no longer be cared for by their owners, for a variety of reasons. There is a fundamental difference in the ideologies of animal rights activists and animal welfare advocates. Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary founders, staff, and leadership are animal welfare advocates. They believe in the extraordinary connection between humans and animals. The annual extravaganza is their primary fundraiser that helps run the operation all year long. Your comment may have some people believe your untrue comment/statement, which directly impacts the animals saved by BCH. Shame on you

Visited Big Cat Habitat the last two years during their Extravaganza and I have no idea what the first responder is talking about...the facility is well kept, animals appeare to be well feed and in good health.
I would suggest, seeing for yourself. From my experience, the article in the Ticket is 100%
accurate. Do yourself a favor and see the Extravaganza.
