Actors from Asolo Repertory Theatre share the stage with singers from the Sarasota Opera for a comparison between John Steinbeck's novel and play "Of Mice and Men" and Carlisle Ford's operatic version that opens March 9.
FSU/Asolo Conservatory students Zak Wilson as George and Jacob Cooper as Lenny will act out scenes from the stage version of the story of two migrant farm workers and the tragic events they face. Then Brian Major as George and Adam Cromer as Lenny will sing the parallel scenes from Ford's operatic version. Both singers are Studio Artists with the Sarasota Opera.
The two organizations teamed up in the last two years to present similar programs before the opera presentations of "The Crucible" and "Vanessa." "Of Mice and Men" is the third in the Sarasota Opera's American Classics series.
Greg Trupiano, the company's artistic administrator will narrate the program, at 5 p.m. Monday in the Sarasota Opera House. Admission is $5 and tickets will be available at the door. For more information: 366-8450; sarasotaopera.org
