Things just got a little funnier in Sarasota with the return of the Florida Studio Theatre Improv troupe.
A group of returning favorite funny people are back for the season that opens at 8:30 p.m. Jan. 19 and continues through Feb. 23 in the company's Goldstein Cabaret.
The weekly shows feature a rotating group that includes Adam Ratner, Christine Alexander, Tim Beasley, Angel M. Parker, Darryl Knapp, Steve Turrisi, Chris Friday, Catey Brennan, and Jim Prosser on the piano.
The troupe also welcomes special guest performer Jay Hopkins of Orlando's Jester Theater, which has been featured in the annual summer FST Improv Festival. He formed the company with his wife, Diana, in 2004, and continues to act, direct and write plays.
Each week, the cast builds shows around suggestions from the audience.
"There is nothing like working with 100 people every Saturday night to create a new show," said Managing Director Rebecca Hopkins, who leads the Improv Troupe. "That's what we do – instant new play development. We take the audience's seed of an idea, interpret it, twist it and reflect it back in a way that is surprisingly true and (hopefully) funny."
Performances are at 8:30 p.m. Saturdays. Tickets are $12. Beverages are available. For more information: 366-9000; floridastudiotheatre.org
