One of Sarasota's biggest culinary problems has been the lack of decent Chinese food, but now it appears that some Tampa restaurant veterans may be filling our desperate need.
Yummy House, one of Tampa's better Chinese restaurants, will open a third location here in Sarasota, in the former home of Wild Hog Barbecue (3232 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, 351-1688). The first Yummy House opened in 2007 (read my review, when I was working at Creative Loafing Tampa) in a nondescript strip mall, bringing a flash of Hong Kong-style Chinese cuisine to Tampa. The restaurant's incredible XO sauce, traditional barbecue, homemade noodles and salt-and-pepper tofu and calamari quickly garnered it a devoted following.
Yummy House's success led to a second location in Tampa called Yummy House China Bistro (read my review, again from CL Tampa), the setting and menu a little more refined and accessible to people more used to typical New York-style Chinese takeout and the added bonus of dim sum service.
No news yet as to when Sarasota's own Yummy House will open -- or what form it will take -- but we'll let you know (and we'll be first in line to try it out).

As a Korean - American I know a thing or two about oriential cuisine and no doubt that Yummy House will add a new dimension to the Sarasota dining scene. Their style of cooking is more of a hybrid cuisine than traditional Mi Mae Quack cooking that you find in Hunan . Be sure that you will find no trick or funny meat combos at yummy house.
If they say it's beef then is beef ,if they say it's pork then it's pork, more traditional cooking will include more exotic game like raccoon or venison . The only thing that bothers me is that the Yummy House is also famous for high prices. But it will be better than watching a bunch of Mexicans stuffing there face at a all you can eat slop house.
