First Friday on First Street supports ballet's activities

The Sarasota Ballet is using this week's First Friday event downtown, from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 2, as an opportunity for supporters to lend a hand.....or a shoe.

Sarasota Ballet asks for support of its pointe shoe fund at this week's First Friday event.

At T. Georgianos, 1409 First Street, you can meet shoe designer Paul Mayer and support the company's pointe shoe fund. A female dancer can go through a pair of pointe shoes ($100-$150) in a single performance, so there is a constant need for funding to supply the steady stream of demand, especially with the company's expanded ranks this year.

Next door, at I Tesori, 1405 First Street, the ballet will be hawking a new collection of Nutcracker ornaments in support of its original production "John Ringling's Circus Nutcracker" which will have its world premiere in December.

Dancers and supporters of the ballet will be in attendance -- just in case you want a shoe signed or something...
