EDITORS NOTE: The Opera has released the additional information that dancers selected for "The Pearl Fishers" will receive a $2,000 honorarium.

The Sarasota Opera, which will present a revival of Georges Bizet's "The Pearl Fishers" ("Les pecheurs de perles") during its 2013 winter season, is holding an open audition for dancers for the production on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.

Set in Sri Lanka, the opera,  last performed here in 2003, is the story of two men whose vow of eternal friendship is threatened when the object of their mutual desires suddenly returns, igniting a dangerous triangle of forbidden love.

Director/choreographer Keturah Stickann is seeking six dancers aged 16 or older, both male and female, who are mature, athletic and posses a deep sense of theatricality.  Candidates must posses a modern background with a strong classical base and an easy knowledge of partnering technique; men should be comfortable lifting both women and other men.

Rehearsals will begin on or around Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 for performances that begin Feb. 16 and run through March 22. Dancers cast in the production will receive an honorarium.

The audition will be held in the Youth Opera room of the Sarasota Opera House, 61 N. Pineapple Ave. For more information and to reserve an audition spot, email danceauditions@sarasotaopera.org.
