/

The first in a series of community workshops to create an art installation at Art Center Sarasota next May will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 17. Volunteers will collect large fallen leaves and cover them with colored textile paper created by Sarasota artist Jackie Peters Cully, eventually creating a forest of colored textile leaves.

Cully, a native Floridian, studied at the Art Institute of Chicago with an eye toward fashion design and went to work as a textile designer. She joined the faculty at Parsons School of Art and Design and eventually launched the Jackie Peters Design Studio.

Monday will be the first of several sessions with additional dates to be posted. All participants will be listed on the gallery wall when the installation is complete. Participation is free. Art Center Sarasota, 707 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. 365-2032; www.artsarasota.org.
