Bema J's Bistro opens in North Port

/

Brian and Julie Vespia have opened Bema J’s Bistro (3515 Bobcat Village Center, North Port, 257-8036) -- the name derived from their children and grandchild’s initials -- in North Port. The proprietors also own Santhino’s, a cosmopolitan, upscale restaurant in Punta Gorda.

“We thought North Port needed a family owned restaurant offering fresh food,” said Julie. “Our American-style dishes have been well received here.”

Bema J’s is in a former breakfast cafe that has been completely renovated. The “casually classy” setting incorporates warm wood tones in chairs and floors with bright green accents and handcrafted artwork gracing the walls.

Burgers and wraps are served all day with chicken salad created from a family recipe among lunchtime favorites. “We offer pasta, fish and steaks in the evening,” added Julie. “And we can customize entrees to suit diners’ preferences. Fish can be prepared a number of ways and we provide vegetarian dishes upon request.” Grouper and Shrimp Fra Diavolo are hits, and Wednesday night is rib night. The baby backs with a treasured family barbecue sauce are so popular, reservations are suggested.

Freshly made sangria is available (two for the price of one) all day every day, and beer and wines may be ordered.
Bema J’s is open Monday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 4 p.m. to close.
