Getting “brambled” at State Street Eating House + Cocktails is a snowballing downtown Sarasota trend, so take note. Dick Bradsell crafted the blackberries-and-gin drink in the mid-1980s at Fred’s Club in Soho, London, England, and now, mixologist Adam Blight is doing it local justice. Between sips, sample chef Christian Hershman’s roasted Brussels sprouts at the new, urban hotspot.
2 ounces Plymouth Gin
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
½ ounce heavy simple syrup (2 parts sugar, 1 part water)
Crème de Mure Liqueur
Muddle blackberries in a rocks glass and set aside. In a shaker with ice, add the gin, lemon juice and simple syrup, and shake. In the glass with the blackberries, add crushed ice. Strain the liquid mixture over crushed ice and add blackberries. Cover with more crushed ice (it should look like a snow cone). Top with Crème de Mure and garnish with a fresh blackberry.
