Long before Katy Perry, Jill Sobule had a hit with "I Kissed a Girl." That song, along with "Supermodel" (and not the RuPaul version) came from the 1996 film hit "Clueless" and brought her widespread attention.
Sobule, who has recorded eight albums, has been in Sarasota this month writing songs for the Asolo Repertory Theatre's production of "Yentl." And after that show opens Jan. 20, she's going to come back for a one-night concert at the theater. She is scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. Feb. 13.
The singer, songwriter and musician has been featured at the annual TED conferences, and keeps exploring new ways to produce albums and create music and sounds.
Sobule spent several days last month working with students in the FSU/Asolo Conservatory who form the ensemble and on-stage band for "Yentl," teaching them music and testing their instrumental skills.
Tickets for the concert are $15-$50. For more information: 351-8000; asolorep.org
